Howdy. The power steering fluid in my '92 is looking pretty ugly. (black and icky) What is the easiest way to get the old stuff out? Is there a drain plug somewhere, pull of a hose, or do I have to suck it out? Thanks.

I used a baster, like for a turkey, to take it out. It took a long time to bleed it. I just had another bottle of power steering fluid and bled it, so it was clearer. It was still dirty though, I couldnt get it perfect.

I sucked

Large turkey baster like stated is a great tool for this flush......

With the front tires jacked up in the air (frame on stands) rear wheels blocked and engine running you cycle the steering wheel side to side to pump the fluid through the system. Basically empty the pump resevoir, fill with new, turn wheel back and forth (full lock) and pump fluid through, drain resevoir, fill repeat....repeat........
until it runs clean (all new fluid)

Doing this with the tires on the ground puts strain on the system so it is best to have tires in the air when changing fluid.

The best way to do it is to drain the system completely by disconnecting the return hose.......but this method is quicker and it works well......

I didn't bleed my new pump and fluid this way and I think I am screwed with the whine. Any chance I can bleed that way to quiet it down or am I going to hear it forever now?
