how much does it move in and out?
Does it whine and is it working?

I vote for if the PS seems fine, leave it alone.

410 fortune

it moves about an1/8 inch but the pulley turns free no nosie and it doesn't whine when i turn. Thanks

what happens if u hear a whining?? just wondering? Mine is a little noisey

dtl

if it's whining it is either low in fliud or the power steering pump needs rebuilding or replaced.

That amount of play is normal. Since our pumps pulleys are pressed on there is no good way of setting the depth it sits on the shaft so it will align with the other pulleys. This play allows for a more reasonable install. And some p/s whine is normal. If you move the wheel slightly (not lock to lock) while idling and it sounds crazy then there is an issue.

I've even seen them go in when u turn the wheel one way and out when u turn it the other....im like huh pressure? Idk weird but yea lots and lots of play even on a new one...
