I've searched but I can't find anything covering this. When I go to use my driver door power window, when I hit the switch to go down it hesitates/stutters, goes down, and then stutters. When I go back up it rolls back up, hits the top of it's travel, and then stutters/hops. What gives? I'm getting frustrated. LOL

Is it hanging up in the track? I had an issue where my first Explorer would shudder going down, and it eventually popped the epoxied clip off the window. After re-securing it I cleaned the window tracks with lots of brake clean (not the most advisable. Lots of plastic in there to eat) and relubed with white lithium grease. Worked well after.

Probably not likely, but my lastest Mounty had sat a lot and the window belts outside had gotten very dirty and would make the window very sluggish.

Do you windows have a vertical scratch in them near the center?

I suspect your motor gear pucks are going out. Dorman makes a kit for that. Do try lubing the window track first.

OR.... as the drive bushings in the window motor go out, they disintegrate. This causes a catch and go shutter in the operation of the window. The motor itself works.

Aftermarket parts here are often very low quality. So my advice is to replace the bushings And keep your stock window motor. There are several threads about this on our Forum. The trickiest part is finding a spot weld that needs to be drilled out so that you can remove the window motor in the door frame, but this simple and well defined (with photos) in the information here.

Good luck.

Edit: J.C. Beat me to this....

Here is a video of what it's doing. It appears to work fine but you can (just barely over the background noise) hear it clicking when the window reaches the end of its travel.

Dorman kit 74410 will repair the power window motor. However, I would first clean and re-grease the window regulator tracks as they can get mighty dirty after years of use.

It seems to move at good speed and smoothly in the video, so I do think you need the Dorman 74410 puck kit.

It seems like it needs a little silicone spray in the rails and some grease in the regulator tracks

:usa:

If you can clean/rebuild your Motorcraft part do so. The aftermarket I bought (not Dorman) is not nearly as good quality.

The guides/rollers on mine split and eat up the cable.

I think they recommend using silicon spray on the tracks if you research it.
