Power Window Problem

Hi everyone-Here's another dreaded window issue. In the last two weeks, all 3 passenger windows fail to move, using either individual door switches or the master set on the drivers door. all motors run, and make a scary "thunka thunka thunka" noise. Drivers window is fine. If you set the safety switch to "locked" there is no noise or sound of motors running. based on wading through the forum archives, I removed and cleaned all contacts in the drivers door console (they were all clean with no pitting or corrosion) , checked for frayed or cut wires at the door jambs, and double checked all grounds. I'm pretty skeptical of a coincidental failure of all 3 motors.....any thoughts on what I'm missing ?...............Thanks !!!

When you say "all motors run", does that mean that you have "bench" tested them or that you can hear something in the door when you hit a given window switch???? IF you are hearing noise, I would say that you got mechanical issues with the doors.... BUT it could be a poor connection resulting in "low voltage". I suspect you need to take at least one non-working door apart to check things like voltage and ground when you operate the button.

Sorry, But "Thunka" was my best imitation ! I removed the passenger side door panel and when either button is depressed, the motor whines as if running, and the window may (or may not) drop, with the aforementioned noise. If it does drop, it has to be manually lifted back up. Same is true for the 2 rear ones. I kinda doubt all linkage or motors failed at once. Low voltage might be a possibility-Is there a relay these motors are fed from ?

OK... that's more "clear". Anyways, your best approach would be to run a "direct to motor" connection for testing.... either use a "long jumper wire" or move/remove your battery closer to a "test door". It could be a bad splice near the relay module in the dash that things get feed by. Get a meter and measure things to confirm.

Thanks Budwich-I'll try your suggestion and direct wire a door to see what happens. Just gotta wait for the rains to stop here in sunny Fla !

This is based on a 98 wiring diagram. But I'm confident they are close to the to the 95 if not the same. The one thing common to all 3 passenger windows is the window lock switch. I'd start there. 3 mechanical failures at the same time would amaze me. Since the 3 windows use 3 seperate grounds, that leaves me to believe you're losing some voltage through the lockout switch. Just my opinion. Best guess is lockout switch is faulty or a bad +voltage connection to it.

For my Thunka thunka sound it meant that the window motor had eaten its bushings. Do a search here for window bushing replacement..Its wicked easy..you just need some bushing from the HELP section at your local parts store, a can of all purpose grease and some basic know how...

BINGO !!!!!! All 3 motor/gearcases had crumbs for bushings---Quick trip to Autozone and an EXCELLENT replacement procedure in the "how to" forum solved the problem....Many Thanks..
