power window / windshield wiper problem

Once in a while they both go out at the same time and then they start working again at random. I figured a short but can't find one. What would cause this? And y would they b linked together like that? It's a 98 sport

I don't have the difinitive answer for you, but I would try pulling the relays and reinserting them. This may not fix the problem, then again it just might. Even partially removing and reinserting the relays will a lot of times "clean" the contacts. Of course, removing them and spraying them with contact cleaner would be a better idea.
