hi, my power windows will not work anymore. well the driver can control them but from the other controls (2 in the back seats, and 1 on the passanger) just will not work, locked or unlocked. Can anyone help me to solve this? thanks. its a 95 xlt explorer.

I had the same thing happen on my '95. The problem ended up being trash dropped into the switch block on the driver's door, that was keeping contacts from being made. The power for the other window switches goes directly through the driver's door switch, allowing the ability to "lock out" all of the other switches on the other doors. If the "lock out" contacts become dirty, they will not allow power to be sent to the other doors, no matter the position of the switch.

If you remove the door panel, then remove the window/lock switch block from the door, you can then seperate the block into two pieces, and give all the contacts a good cleaning (no sandpaper). After 10 years, there has probably been a good amount of dust, soda/coffee, dirt, and general gunk spilt into that switch block to keep it from functioning properly.

thanks for the quick reply. but it did not solve the problem. i thought it sounded like it would but no luck.

does anyone know of something else that might be causing the problem? thanks

Oh yeah, after trying to fix the windows the front drivers side door will not lock now. Any suggestions.

I only have a 96 guide... however, it should be similar (maybe colors are different). As I mentioned in another thread, powering for all the windows typically goes thru the master control. As indicated by a Robb in previous post, one place that it is "stopped" is at the master window control switch. Since you have checked the switch... hopefully you checked to ensure that power was making it thru the switch.... you have done part of the job which good. The color of the wire carrying the power to the other switches is R/LB (according to 96). It is quite likely that this wire is broken going thru your driver side door pillar. This is a common area of trouble as the front door usage tends to fatigue the wires there. The reason that your drivers master control can still work the windows is that it gets its power from another wire and it also sends its power thru a different wire to those switches / motors. Hope it helps.

Thanks to both of you. I got it fixed and now they work! You both really helped out a 17 yr old who dosnt know much about cars (same with my family). So thanks again!

Your welcome.... did you get your door lock working again? They have similar problems to the windows although there are also mechnicals that also play a common role.
