Got my gears finished up today and then went to install the powertrax no-slip. Got to the point where you drop the c-clip through the hole and it wouldnt go on the axle. I looked down in and the groove on the axle was only halfway through the access hole with the axle pushed in as far as it would go. It is the open carrier and I did remove the spider gear washers. I reassembled it a couple more times and each time was the same problem. Anyone ran into this problem before?

...some have ground the clip but idk...search a thread called c-clip eliminator...that should help...;)

I have to watch this one with great interest since i just bought one

Aren't the Front Diffs c-clip less from the factory anyways?

it appears that he installing it in the rear axle I know there are probably c-clip eliminator kits for the 8.8 but there $$$$.

in the factory 8.8 I did't have problems, maybe put some oil on it, and make sure the rotors are off when you do it, that will gave you a bit of extra play. On my Full width 8.8, I had this problem you are having though. I just grounf the c clip a bit and pound it in with a hammer, my fear is that if I ever have to take it apart (say broken axle) I'll have to cut it out:(

...i edited my above post to show front and rear threads...they are not the ones i was looking for but they still give the idea...:D

I had a simular issue with I was rebuilding the rear in my mustang. I stuffed extra clutches into the factory traction lok by grounding off some of the friction material... It ended up being kind of tight, I used a brass drift to coax the spider gears back into the carrier...

Anyway, to get to the point, I filed a bit off the ends of the axles as they were hard up against the pinion shaft. I would rather do that then grind the "c" clip, that's the only thing keeping your axles in. I forget what I allowed for play, I'm thinking .015, but I would research it and not rely on my memory. That was many years ago.

BTW, I found this to be a great modification. The stang locks up turning both left and right now. Before this mod, when turning right it would burn the right tire, even after changing the clutches. Haven't touched the diff in 5-6 years.

Is this the rear? do you have the right shaft on the right side? Try swapping sides with the shafts. They are different lengths in the Explorers.

Sounds like a very good idea! I didnt even think about taking the rotors off

Yes the rear and the axle shafts will only work on 1 side. 1 is about 2" shorter.
