Prefilters and KKM

Does anyone have any experience with using prefilters on the KKM cone to trap more fine particle dirt while off road? If so, where did you get the prefilter and how much was it? I have heard of people using pantyhose cut down to cover the KKM, does this sound like a viable solution or will it cause more problems that it solves?? Thanks!

During the first gulf war (1991) our helo pilots used pantyhose to cover the inlets on the turbines. It wasn't really sanctioned but it was done. It kept out desert dust...

I've also heard of using pantyhose for a pre-filter. If you can lightly oil it evenly it will work great for catching dust.
