2010 Mountaineer 4.0
Hi folks. Have a 2010 Mountaineer with the 4.0 with 72,700 miles and in mint showroom condition. Never use in the winter. So when I start it up for the first time after 5-6 months the engine is dead quite no chain noise at all. I am quite **** about service and do my own work. (Auto repair shop 30 years) . Now if this was your vehicle would you change the 2 timing chain tensioners as routine mantanice or leave them in. Thank you.

I wouldn't touch it except with Ford OEM parts if you do so. I'd leave it alone but others have their own opinion on the tensioners.

I would stockpile a set of Ford parts to do the repair in case they obsolete them.

But with the 820S filter at each oil change with quality oil, you should not have a problem for a while.

dont do it..... changing those chains is far from routine but if im pretending its mine.... can you please bring it back I have to be at work soon

Install a pre oiler and forget about them timing chains

I am also ........ about my routine maintenance a permanent fix

Thanks guys for the input. My thought was to leave it be. I will purchase new Motorcraft tensioners but wait until I hear start up noise before changing. Will say this that without a doubt this engine has been the most quite engine i have ever had. Change oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Yes could go more but an oil change is a lot cheaper then chains and easier to do.
