Pro Ryder VST?

Just a quick update:

2 weeks have passed and finally 2 out of 4 shocks came in... Turns out they only ordered the rears.. :(

Stopped by today and they promised to order the fronts today. "Should be in by Saturday" Probably means another 2 weeks... (Morons)

Even better, the goofballs ordered the KYB GR2's versus the Gas-Adjust line. I wanted the stiffer ride for the highway. (Morons)

Figure I'll put these on (if I ever get them) and give it a try. If I don't like them I'll go somewhere else for the Gas-Adjust. Advance Auto claims to be able to get them in a week.

All 4 came in yesterday and I installed them last night. Seems to ride a bit firmer than the Gabriels (when the Gabriels worked). Less slop, sway and bounce. Little stiffer on the dirt road, obviously..

Hopefully these will last a bit longer than the VST's.

BTW, i have had bad luck out of the VST's on a 2" lowered X. first set went 2 months and crapped out. just replaced them 3 weeks ago and they are toast again. i do no offroading in this vehicle and i am VERY careful about hitting potholes/dips/etc. i know the shocks are not bottoming out. now i am gonna order something else. im tired of being teased with a good ride for a week, only to have it go to sh*t just when i start to enjoy it.

james- get the kyb's. i rode in lowered ranger with those and it was really great. i think they would run clost to 350 dollars for the set, but will last and will ride far better than anything else. just my opinion

Just some quick feedback:

The KYB's survived two days of pounding in the Ocala National Forest and the infamous Bubba's Mud Ranch and are still going strong.

It's strange how this stuff works. I have pounded the hell out of my VST's off road many times and have put about 10k miles on them on road, and they still work as well as the day I put them on. Go figure

So as I read over all these discussions about the VST's I am left scratching my head. I came here to get a good recommendation on some good shocks for a decent price. I thought I found them in the VST's until I read on. What about Joe Blow 2wd Eddie Bauer grocery getting, softball practice, run kids here and there that never goes off road and wants some good shocks to mellow out my stagecoach ride. Will these last me a while, maybe longer than 20K miles. Thanx guys, and gals.

Firedawgy, welcome to the board!! :D . The Gabriel's should work well for what you want. As I mentioned above, I pound the stuffing out of mine off road, and I use the same truck as my daily driver. The Gabriel VST's are considerably better than stock, not as good as the KYB's or the Bilsteins, but consider the price. You should easily get well over 20k out of them, and even if they do break for some reason, they have a lifetime warranty, so you only pay for shocks once while you own the truck. Can't beat that  !!!

I agree. Loved the way the Gabriels rode. They just did not hold up to the abuse.

The KYB's are fantastic and held up the the weekend of major abuse.

For what you want to do the VST's will be just fine.

All the best.

:bounce: Thanks for the input guys. About as close as we get to offroad is when the wife clips the corner of the grass pulling in the driveway. So I figured that these would last a lot longer since I'm a little tamer on my rotunda beast. Thanx again I'll be visiting pep Boys next week.
