Anyone?

I have a 97 explorer also and have a wiring diagram at home. Check
fuse number 7 (7.5 amp fuse) the fuse box under the dash. This fuse is
for the dash lights, heater, power window and locks, illumination.

Well i checked number 7 on the side of the door, and it said "illumination switches", it was a 7.5 amp fuse, but it wasnt blown. Idk its kinda pissing me off. could there be a loose wire?

Problem solved..IDK what i did, but they work now!! Thanks guys

it will be back.... BUT fuses don't heal themselves.... you have a relay problem.

Figured that, but i dont have the time now to fix that when/if it comes back, ill redo the relay.

Do you know which relay it is, im just going to replace it tomorrow. it went out again and came back on... the repair manyal doesnt say which one it is... Thanks

Anyone? It doesnt list the relays ANYWHERE!!

Parts department

There's a Ford parts dept opened today, I'll pm you the number and you can ask them if you don't get an answer here first... gimme a second to pm

Thanks donner

No problem...

I just read that a voltage limiter might cause those problems... Don't know if Exs have a voltage limiter.

Not sure. those guys were helpful, and really nice. they didnt have a clear picture of which one it was, so i have to pull and guess. After i finish changing the oil, ill take a run to advance and grab a relay

And they work on Holidays! Whenever I call them, I say thanks for being open... and you're right, they are very nice people. Midwesterners, good people!

I could give you a hint but would have to kill you... :-) ... you are most likely looking for the battery saver relay... perhaps your owner manual.

Wasnt the battery saver relay... all th relays seem to be fine. i think its the dimmer switch? the guy at auto zone said it could also be the GEM, in which case id shoot myself!

It ain't your GEM. How do you know it isn't your battery saver relay???? did you meter the relay AND the connections coming to it????

back to your "problem definition"... when you have the problem... your windows don't work (no up or down from any controls), your locks don't work from any controls, and your dash lights are out.... right?

No, everything BUT the lights work, only the lights are out. Last night i smacked the dash but the dimmer switch and they came back on. so i think the step is to replace the switch.
