Problem with 94 auto tranny, I think!

Hello I am hoping someone here can help me. I have recently purchased a 1994 explorer LTD with auto transmission. It is slow to engage when put into gear and seems that when it does go into gear it goes in hard. It is sluggish and you need to accelerate all the way to the floor to go from 45 mph to 55 mph. It also seems like rpms are high often over 3000 when shiffting gears and about 2500 when not. going up a steep drive way is a huge effort and you can hear the engine bog down. Could this be a transmission problem? There are 119000 miles currently on the vehicle. I dont know alot about vehicles but I know I should be getting more power than I am. Any help would be appreciated.

While your transmission is a possible, other issues loom as well. I am not sure from your description I can say that your problem is just transmission, or brakes, or driveline or, or or.....

I think someone needs to check it out. Professionally.
