I changed the lower ball joints yesterday on my 97x with the help from a post on here. Everything went smooth and it took me about 5 hrs (first timer) to do both sides. This morning the brakes feels spongy and the abs seems to kick in when braking. what could it be? I put everything back together carefully.HELP!

1st, check your brake fluid level.

When you did the ball joints, did you let the brake calipers hang by the brake lines, or did you support them some other way? If you let them hang by the lines, you may have damaged a brake line. Check the line for leaking/bulges. Also, make sure you didn't accidentally disconnect or damage an ABS sensor line.

I used a bongy cord to support both calipers when i did the work. no bulges. fluid level was ok. I did however disconnect the sensor from the hub to complete the job. i put it back on when i was done but could that have screwed something up? the abs light isnt on though.

Yes if the abs sensor isn't exactly in position it will do this. Try to reseat it and clean it up. The other possibility is damage, they are quite delicate with age and it could just be messed up from disturbing it.

Anyone have pics of the sensors? My ABS started going off when installing 32's, but it was very intermittent. After putting on 33's and replacing all rotors and pads (Brembo & ceramic), it gradually got worse on now the ABS goes on alot more when braking. It is usually when braking slowly like at a stoplite and kicks the steering wheel to the left. Wondering if we have similar problems here with the ABS sensors.

Sounds somewhat similar. It started going off when baking slowly at a stoplight but now my light is staying on . I guess i have to take it all apart again and see if it has come loose.hopefully thats all.anyone know what i can clean it with?I saved some money changing my own balljoints hopefully I didnt end up costing myself some by damaging the sensors($130 a piece).

problem fixed!

Ok so I took everything off again to get to the ABS sensor and I found that the sensor on the drivers side was loose. Cleaned it up and used some medium locktite and put the X back together. Problem fixed! I was relieved when the light went off and the brakes worked properly.
