Problems with tires on 06 eb explorer

My dad was complaining about the firestone tires on the eddie baur 06.
He mentioned they were wearing and started to dry rot. Anyone else experience this trouble? Will try to post some photos if I get a chance.

I haven't had problems with the tires them selves on my 07 XLT, however I have already had to replace 1 valve stem due to dry rot, and the other 3 don't look any better.

I have not seen an Explorer with factory Firestones since the tire scandal. My 2006 came with the 245/65r17 BFG rugged trails. I am pretty sure the only other choice in 2006 was the Michelin in either 235/70r16 or 235/65r18.

My Bfg's are showing very little wear or rot, but I have noticed that these particular white lettered tires are very hard to keep clean compared to other white letters I have had over the years.
