PROJECT - Make 5R55E hold decent power (400-450 HP / Torque)

That's a nice and deep pan Jake, that will help with cooling.

I just picked up my 4R70W pan yesterday from having it cleared. The bare aluminum looked very porous, it would get dirty and hold it fast. I test fit my oil pan bolts to an aluminum pan I have. The ARP bolt kit for smallblocks with steel pan rails are too short for this pan. I bought them for a steel pan, but without a stud girdle I'd rather use the aluminum pan. It looks better, and my steel pan is on an engine, behind three others.

Those deep pans sometimes have problems fitting when the exhaust pipe is very close. It mentions this on their website. The aluminum pans won't hold a magnet in place. You might want to use a magnetic drain plug.

This is the inside of it:

FORD 4R44E, 4R55E, 5R55E, A4LD DEEP TRANSMISSION PAN P/N 9614-2
Fits 2WD and 4WD vehicles with the 4R55E, 5R55E, 4R44E, and A4LD transmissions. These 4 and 5 speed transmissions are found in 1985 to 2001 Ford Rangers and Explorers. On a 2WD vehicle, you must use the 4WD filter.

Please check your vehicle to be sure there is enough room to allow our pan to clear your exhaust system. Some customers with the 4.0 V6 have had contact with the catalytic converters or resonators that are located along side or in front of the transmission pan.

Has internal baffles to reduce sloshing. Volume: 3 qts. over stock.

By the way, the drain plug that comes with this cover is magnetic.

Clearing the exhaust will not be a problem in my truck because I have a custom y-pipe with no pre-cats. It's good brooklyn posted this because others should be aware of this. I didn't see that statement when I purchased cuss of the site I bought from.

I always add more magnets inside the pan when I have one off for the first time. If it's an aluminum pan you could just epoxy them in there.

I figure more is better.

are you considering a complete teardown and ground up build? i think i remeber seeing hard parts on ebay that were advertised as heavier duty that stock, i'm interested is seeing where this goes. i've thought of picking up a 5r55e from the local yard and beefing up the isides and basicaly making a new stronger tranny for when mine fails. emphisas on the "when".
