Sounds good! I know that impatient feeling. Like when I had my muffler sitting in my garage....sat there wishing I could put it on the truck. The wait was worth it! :D
Videos....
You can use photobucket or upload them to youtube and set them as unlisted

EDIT: Did you get the 11226 muffler, or something else?

yep went the 11226, $69 off ebay $94 postage still saved $70 on local price!

Well here's an update. After a few months and several thousand miles I have made the decision that the 11226 is going. Its still too raspy and I thought it would deepen up. Not sure whether to hit up a flowmaster or go for a Gibson.

Any thoughts on a muffler that has a deep tone and is not raspy?

EDIT: Caldwell does your 12256 have a deep done and isn't raspy?

How were the performance gains though after the few months you had it in?

I love the performance gains. I rarely take it above 2300 rpm off a stop light. At WOT it pulls very nice. I would recommend a magnaflow to anyone, but this muffler doesn't suit my truck too well. It sounds ricey at 3K-5K RPM.

Ricey is never good, especially in an american truck.

I am hoping to pick up the magnaflow cat back exhaust by summer time.

Hell yeah to that. I'm thinking of doing an 11256 like what caldwell is running (i think). I'm hoping the larger muffler will make a deeper and better sound. I think I may be able to sell my old 11226 muffler.

Im sure someone will buy it. I was actually gonna do just the muffler because it was cheaper and figured it would be less work. But I figured the full cat back would be best. Just gotta get the money.

does anyone know what muffler comes with the Magnaflow 17518 catback system? I apoligize, I think its actually 15718. I checked magnaflow site, i couldnt find anything that said.

So I've been reading up on the ricey muffler and I have came to the conclusion it's the cold air intake that is causing the "coffee can" sound.

I had the EXACT same problem. The stock exhaust is actually fairly decent, and when coupled with the mods you have, and specifically the cold air intake, it makes the car sound ricey. Truthfully, the sound you hear is actually the result of engine resonances which are being allowed because of the cold air intake. If you were to switch back to your STOCK intake, your car would be much quieter. The CAI allows resonances to reverberate all the way back to your tip (which causes the crappy Honda "coffee can" vibration). There is a solution though that allows you to keep the CAI. Like spinner said, you can install a resonator in-line of your exhuast. My advice (personally) is to get an aftermarket exhaust from one of the companies, and cut that up (your stock exhuast is a bit more expensive if you need to replace it). Install a resonator inline of the main pipe that goes from the coupler to the end of the cat, to the muffler.

This will help eliminate some of the resonances that lead back to the exhuast. You'll still have the coffee can sound at some rpms though, and the BEST way to eliminate this is to do what Porsche did back in the 80s when they had free-flow exhaust on their 944s. Basically, you'll want to replace whatever tip is on you car with one that's double walled, and insulated. If you can't get one that's insulated, you can do what I did and install dynomat (the tar / rubber liner) on the inside of the other exaust tip wall. This completely eliminates the vibrations that cause the start of the reverberations and eventually lead to the echoing of the exhaust (the coffee can sound).

I after installing the liner, I taped off the exhaust tip, and sprayed rubberized undercoating throughout the entire inner wall. (Note, I am NOT spraying it in the exhuast, or on the outside. I'm spraying it between the walls of the double walled tip. The exhaust pipe comes out, and the tip is then rolled back along the outside. This part is chromed / polished. This is called double walled. If you install the liner and rubberized undercoating between these two walls, it will eliminate the sound).

The sound is much much better, it sounds really nice, there are no vibrations, no ricey sound, and at wide open throttle, it sounds more like a Porsche 944 than it does a Solstice. I have my stock exhaust back on because I need to weld it all back up, but if you let the rubberized undercoating dry for about 3-4 days, it'll completely harden and you don't have to worry about it melting and draining out.

This is really the ONLY solution. I tried finding a tip, but the only ones I could find were factory Porsche exhaust tips and you had to buy the entire muffler kit (like $1200 bucks) which was NOT worth it to me, so I made my own.
So concluding from that my ricey muffler syndrome seems to be because of the CAI on my Ex. Maybe time to go back to a stage 2? :dunno:

I will be buying a stock airbox from the JY and test this out with a stock intake and see if my ricey sound goes away. Before that I'm going to try what is said in the quote and see if that will help eliminate that issue. If it doesn't I'm positive the larger 12256 muffer will have an impact.

Nate, how about running the Gibson 788500 or 788500S (stainless)?

I run the 788500S as part of the 2.5" catback setup they sell and I have been very pleased with the mellowness of the sound. You can definitely tell it's aftermarket but I would not describe it at all as raspy or coffee can sounding. Interior resonance is very minimal.

The main body of it is 10" longer and 2" bigger in diameter than your Magnaflow so it should be quieter, deeper and not raspy in comparison. It's about 6" longer than the model Caldwell runs. Another difference is it is a round cylinder shaped muffler and not oval...not sure if that makes any difference in the sound.

Like both you and Caldwell's Magnaflows, it is an offset design.

I have a brief soundclip that I will try and find...I'll add it to this post.

Hmm... that's a new possibility. I will probably try that out as I am not thrilled with the magnaflow and dont want the tip gone...

The intake certainly has an impact on the exhaust note...but it is still a function of the muffler itself. I have the Magnaflow catback and a MAC intake on my 4.6L, and it growls just like you would expect from a Magnaflow. I think your disappointment in sound is a combination of the muffler and the 4.0L not giving it the note you want; I think going to the catback muffler should get you what you want without having to compromise on your intake.

The rice sound is gone. :D :D I had the exhaust tip to blame for that. I cut that off and the sound change is wonderful. Quiet at cruising speed and loud at WOT. The tone changed a lot with no tip. I may post up a sound clip.
