I'd get the playstation because of it's size. Somebody else will have to give you the skipping info. But it does seem that more people put in PS2's than anything else.

XBox's skip sitting still

Do you allready have one or the other..? If you dont have either get the X-Box. The only reason for justifying the buy of a PS2 is Rockstar Games(Grand theft auto) and Grand tourismo, but soon both will be available on X-Box. Hence making PS2 obsolete. If you allready own both then why not use the PS2, they are right, it is smaller.

Man, all these people with thier PS2's or X-Box's... it's all about old school. I wanna see someone put in a good ol' Nintendo. Just imagine, Duck Hunt in the car! ;)

Not sure but X-Box may skip a tad less...it uses small discs which means less leverage and weight to skip. Is this really true? Who knows, just a guess though.

All I have right now is a regular Playstation.....so Im going to buy one or the other to install in my X.....keep the info coming! Thanks.:D

I'd go with the xbox. Contrary to what Alec say's the xbox doesn't skip. Not to mention with the xbox you can download Cd's onto it's hardrive. So if you have items burned onto a CD or have some CD's you like you can download them onto the xbox and they are easily play'd back.

The hard drive on the x is a key advantage fpr sure. But that does require you to download your stuff into it which is slow. The disk are the same size for x-box and PS2. Don't forget Socom Navy Seals... another great reason to have PS2. You can also play your old playstation games on the PS2= instant library. I believe the PS2 can load from three different positions flat, standing or on it's side. Which makes it a more versatile install. The x-box has to lay flat.
What do your friends have? All mine had x-box so I got PS2.

i plan on running duck hunt soon

Atari 2600 anyone?

IntelliVision! :D

That thing ROCKED! :p Still, my vote has to go for Xbox. The DVD drives in both Xbox and PS/2 are their weaknesses (Sony and MS went CHEAP), but the Xbox seems to fare a bit better. I've spoken with friends and employees of EB Games and Best Buy who've all said the PS/2 skips like crazy - or won't play at all - when it comes to DVDs.

If you go Xbox, try to get one with the Samsung DVD drive - there IS a difference! Here's more info: http://www.system-mods.com/cgi-bin/pd/kb.cgi?view=43&lang=en

My 2nd Xbox (first one had an issue with the Thomson drive after about 3 months - thank goodness for extended warranties (Best Buy) - I recommend getting one!) has the Samsung DVD drive and it's been perfect for about 8 months. I can rip music from CD-Rs and have yet to see a game skip...

I asked this same question a while back when I was putting a ps2 in my ride.. Everyone said to go with the ps2.. so i did. I really wish I would have gone with the x-box now. It is a huge pain to have to change cds when you come to a stop or trying to do it while driving(would not recommend). Get the xbox, the harddrive would be awesome to have.. All those mp3s you could go through without any discs. I would say that my ps2 has skipped maybe 100 times in the 8 months that i've had it and prolly 98 of those times were from my sub hitting so hard it would make the ps2 skip. I'm not sure how well the xbox is with skipping but I'm sure it's atleast as good as the ps2.

Ok... Everyone is getting off subject :p Doesnt he want it for DVD and not the harddrive? LoL If you are into MASS music files just get an iPod and hook it up to your head unit. Why dont you just put a DVD player in your X? Is the X-box/PS2 cheaper? Just curious

if u are going to be playing games on it get a ps2 but if u want to play dvds use the x-bow i have both in my room and when i had to use one for a DVD plaver i used my X-box its a little friendlier u dont have to mess with the parental controlls once it is set and i have never never never had a problem with mine it played a movie even after it fell off my tv =) it was quite a drop and only landed on a t shirt on my hard wood floor the movie skipped but started right back up only lossing a few secconds

but u also have to remember the x-box is huge =) and cant run on its side

Thanks for all the replies....I was going to just put an in-dash DVD player in and be done with it....but they range from $180-up. The PS2 and Xbox both are less than $200 so I figured that would be the best way to go and I could play games too. I already have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P740MP that plays MP3s, so the hard drive doesnt matter. I already have a PS1. So Im just trying to determine which one would work better in a vehicle with minimum skipping. Keep the info coming!:D

i was in the exact same place as you a few weeks ago.

i researched a ton and figured out that the x-box is better audio sound quality wise (better preouts) and that neither were likely to withstand bass outbursts without skipping. i ended up going with the ps2 because it fits in the cetner console so that i'll be able to change games while sitting in my seat and because its just a cleaner install.

i also bought a clarion 715 dvd/cd/mp3 player etc. to use as my dvd player (since the ps2 one isn't that great)

i would recommend getting both

The X-box beats Sony on music quality? Did hell freeze over?
Plus the X-box is Micro$oft which is run by satan :fire:

Heh... sorry, I had to.
What you need to do is slap a small storage area network in the trunk which hosts your DVD collection, run fibre to the front, carrying the data/video via a small brocade switch, say a Silkworm2400, and then ... unnh, how much was your budget? ;)

wait, why are you playing playstation when the car is moving? unless it's the passengers. just put whatever you want in and use it when your stopped.
