2016 Ford Explorer Sport
Hello Explorer Forums,

I purchased 2016 Explorer Sport roughly 3 months ago - this is our 5th Ford vehicle, first turbocharged.

Bought the Ford ESP and have already had the water pump, timing chain, tensioner, and cam phasers replaced under warranty (thank goodness).

Regardless, I love the car and had the PTU serviced by Brian at BSG Automotive (Ford Tech Makuloco).

They found a piece of metal in the PTU when draining it. It almost reminds me of clutch fingers on the pressure plate.

The PTU seems fine and the car drives wonderfully. It has 83k miles and is a 2016.

Any thoughts?

Brian wasn’t sure where it came from…

Nothing looks remotely close in comparison to those gears. To my knowledge, it’s never been serviced. It’s a new (used) car to me, so I don’t see how anything foreign to the PTU could make its way into the case. It’s a head scratcher for me.

You're lucky to be close to Brian to have him you work. Does he do Ford warrantee work? That ESP paid off good to hear.

I believe that the ESP has to be done by a franchise dealer, but yes, I paid $1800 for a 5 year 48k miles powertrain warranty and it’s worth every penny. Ford took great care of me.
