ok, let me ask yohu guys. i have 2 extra 100W light on my brush guard. i always have it on when i drive. it aims into the area of the low beam, not over the furthers part of the low beam. the cop pulled me over last nite, saying i have too many loght! i was like...huh??? i was in dallas, on a local street, going home from a movie. not speeding or anything. i think he just wanted to check out my clean nice explorer.
anyway, is there any law saying that there shold only be 4 lights on the truck, not more? i thought he was just pulling my leg, got nothing better to do. my spot light did not even shine up on people, it shines on the ground.
any opinion, especially you guys in dallas?

Yes, Texas law says you can only have 4 lights (2 pair) on at one time. You can fight this in court if there is evidence that the road was extremely dark and there were no other drivers on it, meaning you needed the lights on and were not disturbing anyone else. If you want to drive with both auxillary driving and fog lights, turn only your factory parking lights (yellows) on. Then you're taillights are lit and you can use both sets of your aftermarket lights. That is legal, as long as your aux. lights meet the laws regarding primary headlamps.

Go to http://www.texas.gov for all these laws and ordinances. All of them are on the site, under the transportation code. Light laws can be stricter in cities, though.

Good luck!

Only five in ILLinois

Samr thing happened to me here in ILL. Cop pulled me over for having headlight, driving lights and fog lights on (six total). He told me ILL law says you can only have five lights on at one time while on the road. Talked to my Dad in IA and its five there too. Just my $.02

Does anyone know what the laws for this are in New York?

Swak where in Dallas are you? I am at Arapaho and Preston in N. Dallas.

Ryan, the easiest thing to do would be to check with your local police department. They should be able to give you the info you need.

swak6287,

What kind of lights are they? I run around with my 100 watt KC's on sometimes with my headlights. On occassion I will have my fogs on too, which makes six total, but I run the risk I guess. During the day when I have my black outs on I drive with my 100 watters on and that's it. Looks cool. Have some fog lights on order that I will use with driving lights. I'm in Dallas from time to time, usally with my F150 club. Maybe you, and trckmagik might wanna get together and hang out with us sometime. Later.

I remember there was a copy of off-road magazine (I think thats what it was) a few months back that listed all the laws, maybe someone else can help. I know in Colorado the only law regarding lifts or lights it that your lights can't be more then 44" off the ground, and turned on. I never turn on the ones on my roof except for showing off or occasionally when off-roading at night, so I've never really had to worry about it.

trkmagic, i am actually in mesquite. would love to hang out with y'all sometime. the weird thig is, if it is not shining upward at people, but onto the road, how can it be illegal? i have seen cars with 6 lights straight out of the factory. like my wifes tiburon, it has 6. i rarely go offroad, so only time i use te light is on roads. it would realy suck of they say no, u cannot use it. i had had it for alomost a year now, and that is the only time i got pulled over. i wonder if it is because they got nothing to do that nite. i had drove by officers before and they didi not pull me over.

Dallas

If everyone from Dallas gets to gether let me know I am in Arlington

Dead Link Removed

Check out this. This is from Cali. and delt with just abou the same matter. He ended up fighting it and won.

Brian97V8,

That's cool, I live in Arlington also.

Mr. Daylighter how long have you lived here? I just moved here at the beginning of the year to take a job working for a promotional products company. So far I think the town is very nice and that I will enjoy living here

I have lived in this great town for all of my 21 years. I live in North Arlington.

Not to be the bad guy but it seems to me that it would be illegal to drive arround with 100watt lights on no matter how many lights you have on. Standard legal headlights are 55/65 aren't they? 100's would be in every car as high beams if they were legal.

your 21? S*!T! For some reason I figured 30-something... that's ok though, I'm 20 and that usually freaks people out, LOL.

Mr. Daylighter

Sounds like we are close to each other. I live in N A as well.

That's cool. Well, I'm pretty much close to the corner of Green Oaks, and Lamar. If you know where they are building all the new houses, I'm in that area.
