My 5r55e has gone out and I've been trying to figure out what to do. There is a clanging noise up by the torque converter, and it doesn't go into first, second, or fifth in drive. It will go into 2 manual but then it gets stuck when you put it back into drive.
I'm going to pull the trans tomorrow because something mechanical is broken in the front of it.
My question is, If I rebuild it, check the solenoids, and put in a new torque converter, should It all be good after that?
Currently the fluid is still bright red/clear, and I can drive it even though there sounds like mechanical damage around the torque converter. I have not been driving it but I did drive it over to a friends house to do the work.

I assume I'll need the updated separator plate/gasket too. Anything else I'm missing? Has anybody rebuilt one of these before that can give me some tips? Thanks.
