2003 Explorer XLT 4wd
I am looking at buying a new 03 Explorer XLT sport.
It is at the dealer now, and has 200 km on it.

The list price is $40,165, plus $995 for the sport package = $41,160 CAD.

I have found the invoice price for the car is $36,049 + $856 = $36,905.

The dealer has offered me the car for $37,505, or $600 over invoice.

I am also receiving the 0% financing for 60 months.

But, there is a $3000 factory to dealer rebate on this car right now. Please see (program #887).

My question,
Does not dealer receive this $3,000 credit automatically, regardless of if i choose 0% financing or pay cash?

Is this the cash price?

Is it possible to obtain the car at $34,505?

Thanks,

Dealer is pocketing the $3k. You should be able to get him lower.......

Yes it would seem you could buy it cheaper...

here in the states, the discounts are huge. For instance 2 different dealers are setting the pace here in Houston with one advertising 25% off, and another $8,500 off all remaining 2003 Exploreres in stock. Now, you would probably have to settle for a higher interest rate, but these are great deals!

Good Luck.

dam i wish i was negotiating to pay cash for a new car :exp:

Where would you find the information about the dealer's incentives? Especially here in the U.S.?

Check with KBB.com, NADA.com, and ...

Edmunds.com for information on rebates and invoice prices.

I stopped by Sunset Ford for my recall fix of the Cruise Control. I was looking arround. They have huge discounts on the Sports. This is all there is. When they are gone their Gone and they want rid of them. They were taking 7k off the sticker of the one I was looking at.

They only provide consumer incentives. Where can I find information about the dealer's incentives?

Not sure about where to find dealer incentive info...

but I only can tell you what worked for me to beat them down on price. Already knowing the rebate of $4K, I called the fleet department, at 8 Ford dealerships asking each one if they wanted to quote me a price on a specific Explorer XLS with the sport group package. Each one faxed a copy of the invoice and selling price on the Explorer they were quoting. I also told them I would not pay any additional dealer fees or add ons.

All pricing was thousands $$$ under invoice, so I took the lowest price ($20,050) and bought it ($6,000 under invoice.) Spent only 40 minutes at the dealership to pick it up as Ford financing was already approved.)

3 uncle discounts: one works for AK steel (biggest supplier of ford's steel) One works at the louisville truck assembly plant, One works at Pual Miller Ford (dealership) in lexington.....

needless to say my parents got our 03' super cheap ;)

try checking other dealers, you never know if they may try and match/ beat it, im sure hters a few in london

I just bought one yesterday. I got A plan plus $5750 in rebates. Mom works for ford credit and she said Ford is trying to make this the best selling month so far. Expect huge discounts in the next 3 days. I mean last week the rebate was 3000 now its 4000. Gotta love it.

Well guys,

The dealer phoned me today to ask "What can I do to get you in this car?"

I worked him down to $100 over dealer cost. He was very eager to get rid of the car, as it is his only 2003 on the lot.

I confirmed with Ford that the $3,000 factory to dealer rebate was only if you paid cash. So with a $1000 grad rebate, and another $1,000 Ford rebate, I am getting the car at $6,000 below invoice, with 0% purchase financing for 5 years.

Hell of a good deal.

pmassche,

Are you going to keep the same tires (245/75/17 - I think) on the vehicle or go with bigger tires? I ask becasue I just picked up an XLT 4x4 4-door last week with the Sport pcakage. Same tires. I want to put something a little bigger on the rims, but I cannot find anyone who knows what size fits. I had 265/70/16 on my 2001 that I traded for the 2003. If you know of a "topic" that discussed this please let me know.
Thanks

I don't know

I don't know that those new ones are all that high off the ground. Yeah sure they have monster tire sizes but the vehicle seems to hug the ground on the new body style Explorers. I dunno.

My 1997 was much higher off the road than this 2003.

I thought with the 17" wheels, the car would be higher, but they are not compared with my 31" tires on the last car.

I don't think I will upsize in the short term, since my new tires only have 200 miles on them. I would only upsize if I found another purchaser for my current tires.

I know the rims are 17X7.5 wide, with P245/65R17.0 OWL AT tires as standard (105S). I know a 7.5 wide rim can support a 265/65R 17 tire (110s), or likely even a 265/75R tire, if you can find one.

It depends if you want the tire wider, taller or both.
