Push button start

Ok I've seen lots of people askn but it getting any real answers - I want to to a push button start on my v8 swapped ex - I've removed the cylinder lock but I can't figure out which wires need to be hooked up to an "on/off" switch like turning the key to the on position and which wire to hook up to the button for starting - I feel like this would be simple but time consuming to do right but can not find the wires - can someone please help me find what wires I need

Also there is a single wire going from up by the ignition cylinder down to a plug - anyone know what that goes to?

Look up the wiring diagrams, they are on this site, just do a search.

The wiring diagrams sadly are not the best - idid figure out that I had to get a hold of the ignition switch - I'm tracing the 11 wires off that now

Those are the ones I'm trying to use - the one for my 78 f250 is better than the one for my 93 explorer kinda sad but I think I've got it figured out

Go to Bulldog Security's website and get the installation instructions for one of their remote start systems. That's how I did mine, and probing wires... It was so long ago I don't remember much about it though.

i think lbarr is on the right track - remote starters also have the advantage of monitoring the engine until it starts, then disengages the starter

not sure how a simple pushbutton would work - you could have a button that would run the starter, but you need more powered - you need 'hot in run' and 'hot in start' - or you need it to swap between the two - and an off position

then there is the theft consideration - unless you are not concerned about that - the cars with pushbutton starting have proximity sensors - the key must be close for it to work - but if theft is not a consideration, just leave the key in the ingition

not sure how you want it to work - but i can describe how the remote start works if you think it might help

So doing some digging let me see if this makes sense to anybody - a live wire to one side of the switch and the other side has ignition wires 262 and 16 (from inside my ignition switch) that would power the ignition and then wire 32 goes to a switch to crank the starter?
