ive got an 88 ford ranger sxt 4x4 i did a new clutch and new slave cylnder and im havin trouble putting the trans back in. I can get it bout 1" in from the block then it stops (i cant get the trans all the way in)

OKay I assume you know what you are doing, the clutch was aligned using the clutch alignment tool?

Did you remove the Y pipe? It makes things SO much easier if you just remove it.

The key to getting the input shaft through the clutch and into the pilot bearing on the flywheel is getting the trans at the correct angle to the engine.
With the Y pipe in the way it makes this very difficult.

Two people can really help when doing this.
Stabbing a manual trans takes alot of preperation and a little bit of work. Having a transmission jack helps greatly, or if you are like me you just get under the sucker, rest the back of th etrans on your knees and bench press the ***** into place before your arms give up the ghost.

As I said before the KEY iis getting the trans at the EXACT angle it needs to be to engage the engine. So moving the tail ofth etrans up and down and left to right, until the alignment dowls on the engine line up is th eonly way you will get it.

Removing the Y pipe will actually SAVE you time.

Like 410 use that alignment tool. The tool should move in and out with out any problem. Usually those trannys will allways want to stop before the final 1" or less. When it does this make sure the gap between the tranny and bellhousing is the same all around. Because of the weight the rear part wants to hang down. You have to lift up and get the gap as close as you can and then start moving up, down and around. It will go.

Also it helps to have the trans in gear then turn the output shaft back and forth to align the splines on the input shaft with the splines inthe clutch. there needs to be slight pressure so you will know when the engagement is proper. x-tra long bolts help to get it started. Sometimes c-clamps help to bring it finally home. Don't force. It should move easily as you tighten the bolts or clamps.
