After searching on ebay for a while, I've noticed that the two generations of the explorers share many parts. I was curious if it would be possible to put on the fenders and such from the second generation on to the first and things line up relatively well? Please don't respond saying, just buy a second gen. Thanks for your input.

The factory steel fenders from late models will fit on the '91-94, but they don't line up properly. There are several differences. The front end slopes downward more on the late model then the old style. There is an antenna hole in the fender and the fenders are notched for a different cowel piece on the late model.

Perry's Fab N Fiber has a kit that will allow you to convert the appearance, but their kit has a flare built in. Their website is www.perrysfabnfiber.com

Rick's Explorer has been converted from a 1st gen to a 2nd, at least cosmetically. I'm sure he can provide some decent info

Well, Rick do you know if you can use the gauge cluster and dashboard and other interior parts such as door panels from the late model ex's into the first gens?? Thanks for the help thus far.

I don't think the gauge cluster, and dash parts won't work as they are entirely differently shaped. I'm not sure about the door panels. I know the late model seats will work in any ex 92 and up.
