Putting V8 engine, tranny and transfer case into a 4.0 vehicle?

I have a 2000 limited with 102,000 miles on it but it's got rusty rockers. Tonight I found a 2001 limited with a bad engine and tranny but the body's mint. Is it possible to take the entire engine, tranny, transfer case and driveshafts from the 2000 AWD and put them into the 2001?

You can...but if rockers are the only issue then why not repair or replace them? Less time and work and the other Explorer will eventually do the same thing.

These rockers are rotted so badly the brackets holding the running boards are just hanging there. I had to L bend a piece of flat steel and bolt it to the frame and out under the running board to bring it back up. I don't get it. There's no rust anywhere else on the body and with the back doors closed you can't even see it. And it seems every 2000 around this salt hole has the same problem.

my 2000 AWD Mounty was a northern vehicle. the bare steel parts underneath & frame have rust on them (nothing structural) and there's a tiny bit of blistering over one rear wheel (barely noticeable). the spare wheel was so rusted i had to replace it, and there's a little surface rust under the lift-gate and on the rear bumper, but zero rust on any other part of the body. as my other trucks spent their entire lives in the south, they look almost new underneath, so the rust on the AWD looks really ugly to me, but i guess it's not so bad.
