It depends on what fluid is in there? My X calls for Mercon which is tranny fluid. Its reddish in color. The easiest way to do a flush is;
1) get yourself a turkey baster.The wifey should have one, just be sure and wash it out afterwards ..
2) remove as much of the OLD fluid as possible. refill with nEW correct fluid.
3) drive for a day
4) repeat process. It should get you 99% new fluid.
5) its cheap and usually mess-less.
PS you can do this method to your brake fluid as well, just DON'T get any brake fluid on any painted surfaces or it will eat it away.
Go with synthetic. The steering and trans don't have the fluid changed that often so it's a good idea to use the good-stuff. It's not like a 3K oil change where your throwing away GOOD oil.
