ummm, sales are down in every industry therefore the 4-8% sales tax that most cities and states collect (think everything from new car purchases at thousands of dollars in tax in one shot to all the holiday shopping cutbacks which amounts to a lot of sales tax revenue).

They might not flat out say thats why the roads are being patrolled more but I'm sure some high officials have had some talks about economics and decided to "make the streets safer" is a good way to add revenue.

Law Enforcement is exempt from this code, same at the seat belt law.

So whats got the CHP all fired up lately? was heading up the 5 over the grapevine to pick up a load yesterday and noticed more then the usual amount of officers patrolling that area. they was out there en mass yesterday.
Sorry, I did not see this. This time of year is a "Maximum Enforcement Period", or MEP for short. From Thanksgiving until the beginning of the new year there are all kinds of CHiP's out there trying to get the motoring public through the holidays, in spite of themselves.
