Question on hitch.

I have a set of auxillary backup lights that I'm trying to install. My hitch has round tubing, and the kit is for square tube hitches. Can I drill into the hitch tube and not compromise the strength of the hitch? It would just be two small holes for bolts. What do you think?

Yes, small holes won't hurt it. But make sure you paint the holes and seal them with caulking as rust will hurt.

It shouldn't be a problem if you aren't towing anything near the maximum weight capacity of the hitch. If you have a light trailer, don't worry about it.

why not just mount them to the bumper? that way there is no chance that the hitch will fail....

I too have the round tube hitch ( Hidden Hitch ). I cjose to mount my aux backup lights to the bottom side of the bumper, They worl great. I can post a pic if you wish,

I wouldn't drill into the hitch tube.

Drilling into the hitch tube will structurally weaken it. Not a lot, but it will weaken it. If you never plan on towing any heavy trailers, it probably won't matter much. If you really want to mount them to the hitch tube, you would be better off having them spot welded on.
