I'm looking at a 97 f350 quad cab long bed with the 7.5 460 v8. Anyone know how those 460's are and issues? It has 180k on it but great deal. Any suggestions or tips?
Probably the right spot... Just not many of us have that new of a 460 (if any).
The 460 ci I have is a late 1970's and I'm using an early 1970's timing set to get better low end power...
Blow by is the only issue I really know of on the 460 and that was for the older ones. I don't know about the new ones...
Your best bet is probably going to be reading around on 460ford.com That is where I learned most of what I know about my 460, although I didn't learn enough before I rebuilt it so I didn't do all the mods I should of, like increase the drain back hole size and deck the block so I could get 8.7:1 instead of the 8.3:1 compression (I think those numbers are right).
My limited knowledge is they are sturdy engines and can make good power relatively cheaply and easily. if you get a big block you have to get a nice exhaust setup! no better sound!
