Questions About My PIU

The Ford 17 has never had an accident in the rear.... Yes have leak, but no accident. What I know.
I don't care much about F17, I care about my police car 😢

Oh my, I'm amazed! You have a great memory. Absolutely forgot about that. Can you imagine what's happening now with the snow? I should check it again.🫣
A water leak is from Ford 2017.

What I was talking about before is about, police car about rear accident.

I don't want to confuse you, but I never talked about Explorer 17.🤔🫣
Ohh my bad sorry! Got them mixed up. Nevermind.

Now question please, for the police car, how can I know what km has on it? I asked other people who have experience and they said, no you can't.

And please something else,
should I open another thread to write about both or stay here???

Is there no odometer? Has the cluster been replaced? Not sure why there would be no odometer? Though Im not familiar w the PIUs specifically

Up to you. Personally Id have seperate ones for seperate cars so people like me dont get confused but its up to you.

Does anyone know why it takes so long to heat up?
It takes about 30 minutes.
(Ford Explorer 2017)

Is this at idle or driving it? And whats the ambient temp?

I'm looking at the cluster temperature, I have just one that shows the temperature. does have other places?

Now you'll tell me it makes sense that at -19°C, it takes a long time to warm up. I remember that when the temperature was -36°C, the police car was able to get warm in just 15 minutes.

If I go like this, I don't do anything, I make a hole in the water, if I wait half an hour for the car to warm up, the gas goes away.🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I don't have luck on any purchases!!!

I'm seriously considering selling both.

Police cars may have different tuning to get up to temp faster (not saying the PIUs do but it wouldnt surprise me if it did) since often police cars are fired up for pursuits & responses aka quick driving so fast warm up is a priority. Its not a good metric since its so old but at 15F my 98 takes a good while to warm up probably at least 20 minutes if I let it idle in driveway for a bit then drive it reasonably. -19C is probably less than 15F, so naybe it makes sense?Hopefully someone with a 5g will chime in.

I mean you dont necessarily have to let the car warm all the way up before driving it. Bejng fully honest Id let it idle in the driveway for a few minutes then drive it lightly (ie. youre not in a hurry) I wouldnt wait until its all the way up to operating temp (needle is in the center of coolant temp) to drive.

First off all, thank you so much for the help!!!
I have a remote starter and I have programmed it for 15 minutes after 15 minutes the car automatically turns off. What I'm doing, I restart it again, and before the car turns off for the second time, I'm going in. But what I'm seeing, it's the same, nothing changing the temperature on the cluster it's on the zero. I'm driving for 3 minutes, then a little bit goes up. Other people that I asked, said because I have 4 cylinders that's why.

Yeah I honestly wouldnt wait 30 minutes of idling before you drive. Waste of gas & wear/tear IMO. I would warm up a few minuyes then drive lightly to wherever you are going. Could be the case- a 4cyl loses heat faster than a v6 or 8 because of less mass etc. -19 is pretty cold, not sure how most cars do there (I have no experience with that cold)

Now I won't wait that long because I have -13, it's fine, we have summer!🤭

Before I heard not good to drive a cold car!!!

Do you mean this? If so? My car is automatic. It doesn't have clutch!
And that is maybe is illegal! If I have it.

It is good to give the oil & fluids time to heat up & metal to expand, yes. But I find that the impact is diminished after a few minutes and eventually the extra run time at idle puts more wear on parts. So yes rule of thumb let your car warm up. However, there is a point in which the effect is null compared to the gas and eztra wear from idling so long. IMO Id let it run for 5 or so minutes then drive it lightly.
"idle" ..... What does mean, I have this on my car ? 🤔
Idle is where the car is running but not being driven. In this case it's where the car is left in park and the engine is running.

I dont think its illegal. Maybe frowned upon but not illegal to idle your car. I do it regularly. I let it idle for a few minutes in the morning to warm it up. However there is some truth in that article, in that once the car is warmed up, I wouldnt idle for long periods of time. Like if Im picking a friend up I wouldnt idle outaide their house since thats uusally at least a few minutes.

Heres a video that ssys basicslly the same thing Im saying. By the time you scrape ice off you should be good to go he says. So thats a measure of time, for me I usually give it 3-5 mins if its really cold (ie snowy) and 2-3 mins normslly here in LA.
