I want to get some explorer pro comp shocks, but before I buy em, I wanna confirm that I only need 2 on my 1st gen x since the rear doesn't have shocks but leaf springs instead.
As HuskyFan said, you'll need shocks for both front AND rear. That link shows front shocks for an '86 F350 2WD (??). Struts usually refer to front wheel drive vehicles and could include the coil spring. But, to answer your question, yes, you'll need them for the rear as well.
