i have a 98 explorer 4.0L v6 i was just curious as to the easiest way to remove the air box.

remove the clamp around the air tube disconnect the wiring and lift it out

it is retained a rubber grommets in the inner fender and just pulls out
 






it's not screwed down at all? i guess i'm a first gen guy only. oh well......
 






i thought my 97 was bolted down like my 93 until i gave it one good tug and fell backwards with the bottom of the air box in my hand. i fall down too much.
 












it does help to give the lower grommets a shot with WD40 or something, that way you don't have to pull so hard the thing flies up and smacks you in the head when it breaks loose. I think they are accessible from the inside when you have the top off.
