Ok, I am NOT working on an explorer. I am at my buddies house working on his 2001 ZX2. There is something in the door rattling. We need to pop the vynel off in order to find out. We have all clips and screws out (I believe) and the exterior handle end of the vynel is off. However I believe the handle (for manual windows) is causing it to stay on. How do you get the handle off? We have a kit that includes a pry bar for the handle but I do not just want to start pulling and brake something. Anyone know the answer?

To bad this isnt an explorer  !

I assume there is no metal clips on the back? Is there a plug that comes out of the handle where it mounts to the shaft, with a screw behind it? Some window cranks I have taken off worked like that.

No, there is no screw that goes through the handle.

Maybe the splines are just super tight.

Ive never had to take apart a door in a zx2, but i know alot of window crank handles have a wire retainer clip that slides onto the shaft of the handle with tabs or bends that wll fit into windows cut in the plastic shaft and lock it into the regulator shaft, kindof like a "c" clip or "e" clip.

Removal

Place the front door glass in the down position and unlock the doors.
Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).

Remove the front door pull handle applique.
Remove the screw covers.
Remove the screws.
Remove the pushpin.

If equipped, disconnect the regulator switch plate electrical connector.

NOTE: Mark the position of the manual window regulator handle to ensure proper installation.

If equipped, use a suitable tool to remove the manual window regulator handle (23342) and the handle snap ring by pulling outward.

Remove the two-piece pushpins from the front door trim panel (23942).

NOTE: Use a commonly available spring loaded trim pad removing tool with a long thin nose to prevent damage to the door trim panel.

Release the seven front door trim panel bullet nose fasteners and push upward to remove the front door trim panel.

Installation

CAUTION: Ensure the proper alignment of the front door trim panel locator pin or damage to the front door trim panel may occur.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

NOTE: The door must be in the unlocked position prior to installing the door trim panel.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

The screws with the push-pins are two at the rear of the door under the covers, and there shouldbe one near the front edge.

Did you manage to get it out?

Yea thats how most of the ones I've worked on are you have to look under the handle to see it good though.
