i called 4wp, so i could go hit up their buy 3 get 1 free pro-comp deal, and the orlando store by me only had 3 tires in stock, said i would have to wait till friday for the 4th to get in...... anyway....

they quoted me $678 for 4 pro-comp MT's mounted and balanced.

is that a good deal or not? at their listed price of $181, that only adds up to $543 if you get one free, so where is the other $130? how much is mounting and balancing normally? and probably alot of taxes.....

just wanted to hear from a few on whether or not this is a good deal. thanks, todd.

You had to purchase the tire warranty to get the 4the tire free...add that into your cost and read the fine print...

And for us to compare prices, we'd probably need to know the size :)

oh sorry, 33x12.50 r 15

and he said that the price includes the 4th tire free, that they deducted $181.
he offered me the tire warranty, but it was another hundred some dollars....

that doesn't sound all that great to me. i got my 35x12.50 xterrains (4) for less than that. and they are a more expensive tire and of a larger size. if yer going to spend that much $$$ anyways get a better tire. only $44.80 is what yer tax charges are. and every time they have a buy three get one free they jack the tire price up atleast $30 a piece. they are only listed at $151 a tire(month before buy 3 get one free). so on top of over charging they seem to be getting u with shipping and handling for yer one tire or whatever else charges they rung up. i say keep looking. in reality at $151 a tire even with tax is less than yer paying for buy 3 get one free.

are you counting mounting and balancing?

i jus edited my first post... anyways u do come out a lil better than full price but only b/c of the mounting and balancing. but u could go to discount tire and get them mounted for free. and get a better mud terrain

get a better mud terrain? i thought the pro-comps were good MTs?

i guess they are good if u want a more street oreinted tire than an offroad tire. they say mud terrain but i see them as a very aggressive allterrain. kinda like the trxus mud terrains... super swamper themselves call it a all terrain tire more than anything (even though it clearly says mudterrain). anyways i don't know anyone that is happy with the procomps (mt) in the mud. on road they are fine but they don't clean out good. so what if they are a lil better on road. they don't do any good if u jus get yerself stuck. i guess it depends on what yer priorities are. u only worried about on road with minimum mud time... i mean ya they are siped and all. better wet traction. regardless i'd skip the procomps. i'd get yer uniroyal mt's again before i got the procomps. jus my honest opinion. if i were u i'd go bfg mt. comes up short only to a swamper (not the trxus ofcourse)

i don't think they make the uniroyal MT's anymore, or i would have gotten them again.

also, how much is mounting and balancing normally?

anyway, kinda pissed about the whole thing, because they made me put down a deposit to get the 4th tire in, so now i'm kinda stuck buying them, whether or not i think they are the best.

I also love how the same tires have different prices in different ads in the same issue of Off-Road Adventures magazine.

sooooo... that down deposit u gave for them to get a tire they should have in stock in the first place which they obviously do keep in stock and would order more wether u got them or not can't be given back!? now that sucks. u sure u can't get it back? even if u throw a fit or something... :thumbdwn: anyways u could've done worse... u could've got the xterrains  i'd see and do whatever i could to get my money back. make up a good story or something. but if worst comes to worst well u prolly should get them then. its not like they are absolutely horrible or something. unless u do like me and chalk it up to a COSTLY mistake and still go with something else...

You should really try to find a place that does mounting and balancing for free. Those two tasks take at most 10 mins per tire, and it's no brain surgery.

yeah, i just called them and asked about their mounting and balancing charge, and they said it's $15 per tires. seems pretty high

i think i'm gonna try to give them a fit about that deposit, because it's true, they should have it in stock, especially if they're having a "sale" on those tires.

also, i found the same tires $545 shipped to my door.... do i completely want to stay away from the pro-comps? or just at the price 4wp is trying to charge me?

i don't think u'll beat the $500 something to yer door if u go with anything other than the procomps. its jus if yer willing to spend the extra $$$ for something else or not.... how much more $$$ u willing to spend for a better tire? prolly a good $100 more if not slightly over that...

but if u can get them for $545 shipped to you. then since they are 4wheelparts they can match that for you and beat it! and since u can get them for that much... then maybe u can get them to match that price including tax... so u can still get them from them but for the better price. as far as $15 a tire to mount that sounds about right. either way its less than what they quoted you. so if they won't give the deposit back atleast make them match yer good price. but try to get yer money back 1st. they did try to over charge u in the first place.

well, i just got off the phone with the manager up at 4wp, and we sorta worked things out

basically, he matched the price on the website, but had to include sales tax. so basically, if i got them from the site for $545, then had them mounted and balanced, i'd be at $610..... he's selling them to me for $649.

i know i could have payed less, but at the same time, he was really trying to keep my business, although he couldn't do anything about sales tax. i felt bad, because he couldn't really compete with the internet companies, so i agreed.

there are a few benefits. 1, the tires will be there on friday, and ready to be mounted... as opposed to waiting for delivery through ups ground. 2 i don't have to worry about getting the tires in my car, and drive them over to 4wp, and 3 i needed some stuff from 4wp, and was going to be going there anyway for mounting.

all in all, i could have saved $40, but i gave the sale to the local guy. now i just hope that i'm happy with the performance of the pro-comps.

I wouldn't do it. I spent a whole day once driving around Orlando pricing out tires for my Exploder. I found the best deal at BJ's Wholesale by waterford lakes. I dont remember the exact price, but for 4 - 33" BFG Mud Terrains, mounting and balancing it came out to about $20.00 more than 4WP, which was the cheapest that day. It was during one of their buy 3 get 1 free sales also. That INCLUDES ROAD HAZARD INSURANCE on them from BJ's. The only thing is you have to have them ordered. (Damn Firestone) I'd pay the extra 20.00 to get BFG's and road hazard. Def worth it.

you're saying only $20 more for BFG's than for the pro-comps?

Toddious, what website did you find the good price at? I was going to get pro comp 33s at the sale but they seem to have gone from $545 for three last week to about $700 this week.

yeah, i am paying $649 out the door with mounting and balancing. that makes the tires about $585 ($40 extra due to sales tax).

the website i found them shipped for cheaper is actually an ebay store. the auction ended for the only 33x12.40r15 that they had up on ebay, but i'm sure if you email them, they will do the same deal for you. it was $545.97 or something with shipping. the name of the guy is SPORTZTRAILERS.
