Radar Detector Hardwire

............or, you could just tap into the LG/O wire for 12v and ground your other wire. There are multiple verifications that it's the one you want to power your detector from.;)

That's what I'm planning on doing once I pick up the wire. I popped off the overhead console last night and I swear it sounded like I totally destroyed something...

A test light works too. Clip it to metal and when you touch a "hot" wire with it, the light turns on.

I've tried those before and they're pretty fun imo!

So I got the wire kit today and I clamped the blue "tapper" onto the green with orange strip wire, grounded the other wire, and plugged in the detector. I turned the car on and pressed the power button on the detector... nothing.

Is there something else I'm missing?

My escort runs off the ignition accessory feed, with the mute button mounted in the kleenex pocket hole. The smart cord runs through the dash, up the windshield pillar, and down to the detector below the mirror with the mirror wiring.

I think the key to this is the "blue" Scotchlok. A red Scotchlok would be more appropriate. Blue is for 16-18 gauge, red is 18-22 gauge. I'd say the splice is not contacting the conductor in the wire. The wiring diagram doesn't say but I suspect the LG/O is 22 gauge.

I've played this game before only to fine what I've stated.

When I unhooked the blue tapper to take a look, it sort of cut the wiring coat. You can see the wire on the inside (2 sides you can see the wire and on 2 sides you can see the coating).

I tried using an accessory fuse adapter (Bussmann ATM Fuse Tap). Unplugged the radio fuse, put that in the "non-accessory" slot and put a 10amp fuse in the "accessory" slot. Clamped on an extra blue tapper and connected everything. Turned on the car, radio worked perfect but the radar wouldn't turn on.

I have a Beltronics radar and a Passport smartwire, would that be a problem?
