Hey guys was just finished changing my thermostat had plugged the intake with a shop cloth and forgot to remove it, buttoned her up and ran her for about 5 minutes then WHAM made some nasty clicking noise and shut down, that's when i realized the rag was still in there... well now WAY in there im guessing I have to pull the intake and have a look but any advice would be greatly appreciated....

That's where you'll have to start. If you're lucky you can get it out. Clicking sounds as if it's hung up in the valves. Hope you don't find anything too bad...............

http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites Might want to start there. I'm sorry but I had to do that :D But seriously though, that really sucks......I hope you figure it out because that sounds pretty nasty

Ouch. That sounds like something I would do. Good luck and keep us posted.

hahaha.... jokes now that ive had about 10 beers its pretty funny but im sure tomorrow is gonna suck...

why would it suck it in, was it in the air intake or the water hole for the thermostat, ?

if in the intake, take off the throttle body grab it with long nose pliers and pull it out,,

if in the water hole, that is a bit more complicated,

i don't think it could have made it all the way to the valves myself,,

Well thanks for your reply its in the intake stuck it there when i removed the throttle body so no #$%^ would get in there when i fired it up i gave it a couple burps of the throttle and that's when it went bad removed the throttle body and i cant see anything but im 100% sure there's a 10"x10" lint free cloth somewhere in there

It had a very distinct sound kinda makes me think it made it to the valves although i'm hoping that you are correct and i find it somewhere in the upper intake

ya no worries about lint in this b (insert=female dog ....... or Pelosi)

I think you're taking cleaning your motor a little too far there fella.

Worse comes to worse you could always drop in a bigger engine, or lower mileage whatever-you-have.

hand crank

You'll need to remove as much as required to grab the towel with something. Then slowly rotate the crankshaft with a socket and breaker bar attached to the harmonic balancer retaining bolt while pulling on the towel. Hopefully the towel is only caught by one cylinder valve set. When both valves in that cylinder are depressed the towel should be free to extract.

I see joes mind ticking on this one. Sorry to hear about the lose of a lint free cloth. Hopefully everything goes well with the extraction!

Pulled the intake today and found the offensive object in question wrapped around only one valve like a coat looks like its pulling the valve slightly to one side I can only hope the steel is hard enough that its not bent only whats wrapped around the valve is exposed most of it is in the combustion chamber need to make some specialty vise grips tomorrow to get a hold of it then we will see how much i can get out thanks for the replies and the jokes..

Have the valve fully open have managed to rescue 3/4 of the rag its stuck tho I think it might be caught in the exhaust valve when i turn the engine by hand i can now only turn until the valve is almost closed then it seizes up i can reverse it back the other way again until the valve closes and then its not going any further any ideas?

 EEK, I will pray that you didn't bend a valve stem.
