Ran out of gas

My '03 Explorer ran out of gas in the driveway. I have put about 3.5 gallons in the tank. Following the directions from the owners manual, I turned the ignition switch on and off several times before trying to start. It still will not start. I also tried resetting the fuel pump switch with no luck. Help Please!

4.0L or 4.6L?

Also, you may need more then 3.5gal. I know when my friends saturn ran out of gas we needed about 5gal to get it to turn over and that was a 3.0L V6.

When you turn the key to on are you hearing the fuel pump whine? If not, you may have to re-set the pump. There should be a pump re-set on the passenger's side up under the top of the carpet.

It may also be you need to cycle the key a few more times to get fuel fully into the system.
