I was planning on doing a soa swap on the rear of my 94 sport. I have a rear out of a 92 4.0 4x4 ranger with same gears. I know I would be going down in spline count but this truck will be seeing very little off road. Has this been done? Anying I'm overlooking?
Thanks for any info.

...Usually people are swapping the second gen X 8.8 axle with disc into a Ranger...:dunno:

...I am not familiar with this but a couple questions come to mind...

...Is the axle from the Ranger a 7.5 or an 8.8???...Don't you have a speed sensor and brake system on your second gen X that would not be found on a 92 Ranger???...And you would be stepping back to drums in the rear???

Its drum too...I think 95+ are disk on Explorers. 4.0 = 8.8. Speed sensor for abs or speedo?

.....My bad, I seen 95 limited and forgot you said 94...

...I know the 94 has 4 wheel abs and I personally don't know the set up but would definately check into that...

...I take it you are swapping the Ranger axle in, out of some sort of convenience??? The reason I ask is I would seek out an 8.8 with disc if I was going to do the swap myself...I hate frozen drum brakes every morning...

Yea... I have to change that 95 thing, that was a few yrs ago:rolleyes:
I'm just looking for a quick spring over axle to give the rear a lift. The Rangers came fatory with spring over.

The Ranger axle is narrower than the Ex axle. Probably not what you want to do...

The Ranger axle is a 28 spline where the Explorer(being heavier) is a 31. Don't know how well the Ranger axle will hold up with the extra weight of the Ex. Most folks go from Explorer to Ranger, not vice versa........
