has anyone ever thought of putting a ranger bed on a 4 door ex? kind of like a sport trac but first gen body style. iknow the frame would have to be stretched but what else might this entail? can any body photo shop this together for me. thx in advance.

the hardest part would be stretching the frmae and reinforcing so it dont brake in half. Then you got brake lines. electrical, driveshaft and if you relocate the tank, fuel lines to deal with. when you think about it, its not too hard except fro the frame stretch. gettin that thing straight will be fun.

also all the body mounts are off...hwo much longer is a SB ranger then a 4-door X?

it would be cheaper to just buy a ranger. the front of the first gen explorers look like the pre 93 rangers anyway, so in the end you would have the same thing. just less time and money in one.

i say if you want to make it a pick up, modify the bed instead of all the mounts and the frame and drive shaft and all that. it would be easier to do and cheaper if you screw up.

Maybe something similar to this.

was just about to type in that link. thats a sick set up. if you have to have an explorer, then you could just hack the back off. do a search for covertable explorer and you'll get a couiple of guys who did this and it turned out sweet.

You might be able to swap on a BII body with a shortened Ranger bed onto an Explorer frame to have something similar.

I didn't check the link but you could take a Ranger get an extra set of doors and turn it into a 4 door ranger. We did this a number of years ago with a fullsize bronco turned it into a 4 door bronco on 35's only had to extend the frame 16 inches. it's notso hard if you have a decent shop and alot of time.

i think the answer is to cut the ranger bed to the right length...

have fun closing up the back of the explorer "cab" cleanly
