ok so i'm looking at getting a 95 ranger 2wd. i want to lower it but i've never lowered anything before so i got some questions.

i know i can lower it 3" with the dream beams. but i know i'll want to go lower than that but i don't want to mess with air ride. so i was wondering if i could use the 2" drop coils with the lowering beams. or if there are any other options i could do with the front.

also for the rear i figured i'd do an axle flip. if the truck i get doesn't have a LS i was wondering if i could just swap a 2nd gen explorer rear axle with LS since it's already set up for spring under axle. plus it would have rear disc brakes. with the brakes i'm guessing i'd have to use a brake booster from an explorer with rear disc brakes.

and if i wanted it lower it more in the rear i figured i would do a shackle flip or a 1" or 2" lowering block.

any help on this would be awesome.

I believe the same rules apply to the front when lowering the truck as lifting. So, the 2" drop coil is the most you'll want to go on top of the 3" beams.

The explorer axle is ~1" wider than the ranger so watch out for that when you buy wheels and tires. You don't want want to scrape the sidewalls of your tires. Although, you could always pull the bed (if it's a problem) a tiny bit to clear them. The spring pads are also 3" more narrow on the explorer axle, so you'll have to move those out to match the stock spring spacing.

that sound like good info for the front, thanks froader

i have a set of 5 spoke ranger splash chrome rims i was planning on using. they have 235/60-15 tires on them. i hope these will fit bc i like the way lowered trucks look with stock rims and lower profile tires.

here's one of them

so which ever axle i use i'm still going to have to have the plates re welded. i guess i should wait till i get the truck and take some measurements to see if i'll be able to fit an explorer axle. anybody have info for swapping axles? links would be great.

is it common to swap an explorer axle into a ranger?

A lot of ranger guys do it for the added strength. The explorer is the 31 spline and the ranger is 28 spline. RangerX has done it.

Also check out www.rangerpowersports.com, there are mostly lowered ranger guys on that site. You'll be able to find any info you want over there.

i actually just registered on there about 5 minutes ago and i also just registered on therangerstation.com also
