2001 Ranger has a rattle that sounds like it's just in front of the firewall (driver's side) when I hit a bump. Any suggestions as to what this could be?
It might be what is called the "dust exclusion ring". It is on the backside of the hub/wheelbearing.
It might be broken sway bar end links.
It might be a heat shield on the exhaust.
Theres also what looks like a small shock absorber on that side of some Rangers, it could be that that piece broke
Thanks for the reply. Any idea on knowing when to replace the sway bar end links? Visually the sway bar end link looks like an hourglass with a rubber bushing at the top and bottom. Any ideas?
I wouldn't think a cat converter would be up front where the noise is coming from.
I'm actually wondering if it might be a ball joint. Anyone know where to find it on the Ranger?
You might want to check the brake caliper. The 2 bolts holding the caliper together tend to come loose and fall off. That happened to me and it was a pain trying to figure where the trouble..
i have a 2006 ranger that had the same thing ,it turned out to be the bottom fuse panel mount. it is a tab that fits into a slot in the front fender and was fixed with quarter sized gob of silicone over it .
