I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Lately, I have noticed that when I am accelerating on like an on-ramp or trying to pass another car that when my trans downshifts it begins to make a strange rattle noise until it goes back into overdrive again. Seems to be around the 2500 to 3000 rpm range. Also, in the last couple of days I noticed that my trans does not always go into overdrive when I'm on the freeway. Do you guys have any ideas? Thanks

So is this noise only when you get on the gas fairly hard? If so, it's pre-detonation knock, or pinging. Few possible problems/solutions. Try running a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank and try cleaning the MAS. If those don't help then we'll continue to track down the problem.

Welcome and good luck! Feel free to use the search feature to obtain additional information.

Yeah, this noise only really happens when I get on it hard to pass or accelerate. Although, today I think I began hearing it a liitle even in overdrive. Thanks

You might also check to see if you have a dristrubitor cap. If you do you may want to check the timing on it. If the timing is a little off it will send a spark to the cyclindar too early. This will cause a knock. Good luck

Ex have coil packs.Might want to check you lower intake bolts:D

Definately do NOT check the distributor cap as you don't have one

I agree with the suggestion to check your lower intake manifold bolts also. Try using the search feature for "knocking" "detonation" or "pinging".
