This weekend I went to change my plugs and wires...Holy S***, what a ridiculous task on these trucks. I thought it would take all of 10 minutes, but I couldn't even fit my hand in to get the wires off the plugs. Has anyone found an easy way to do this. I also noticed that the wires rest on the valve covers with out looms. Has anyone re-routed the wires so that they rest on top of the intake manifold between the hood? Thanks

Eric

Not sure if you are aware, but on the passenger side of the vehicle, you can reach some of the wires and plugs from the wheel well.
As long as the plug wires are not coming in direct contact with the exhaust manifold, there should be no real problems. You might not want to raise the wires so that they rest on the intake between the hood because heat rises and the plug wires will run a lot higher - it may not be beneficial for performance.

What's the deal???? Has no one else changed their plugs and wires before, or is it just a pain in the ass and I have to suck it up? For those of you with experience, how long did the whole process take?

Thanks

Suck it up, It doesnt take that long once you get going. It took me about an hour and a half to do a "tune -up" replace the plugs, wires, air filter, pcv, clean the TB on my 4.0 OHV. On my six the wires fit into nice separators on the manifold, and valve covers-and they are easy to get the wires into and out of.
On my Chevy truck it took me at least that long to get the freaking wires off(v-8) and that was breaking almost all of the wire holders.

Is there that big a difference between the 95+ models and the 91-94's? On >94, the driver's side is a breeze, the pass. side, was a bit harder, but still not as bad as some of my older model big-block toys. Unless they just have multiple layers of crap in the way, I can't say it's hard at all. Keep pluggin', you'll get them changed. I will say that having a 4" lift does make getting the back 2(pass. side) a lot easier.

I have to imagine a 91 is much easier than a 97. I can't fit my hands down to even get to the plugs. The run the wires between the intake manifold and the valve covers through a small space.

Took me two hours to change both the wires and plugs; both were a pain the a__! I don't understand why the engineers couldn't create a bit more space for this beastie 4.0l V6!
