Ready for the Road Package

Hi guys,

My PIU came with the ready for the road package (evident from all the Whelen Ions, vertex and Whelen speaker in the front). The cencom sapphire was removed but the wiring is still there behind the 2nd-row seats. While I don't need the lights, I was wondering how I could get the PA system/airhorn to work. Do I need to buy a Whelen amp and control head?

And does anyone know which wires are for the speaker? There are so many wires back there.

You will need an amp, the speaker wires terminate in one of the police package harnesses behind the dash plate where the power points/SYNC input plate is located. The speaker wiring is in its own connector with a yellow wire and a blue-white wire.

Ford has upfitter guides for the PI models posted online, they're worth reviewing to see what your vehicle has going on!

Thanks, guys! I found it Any chance anyone knows of an amp and controller that would work with the speaker? The sapphire is really expensive and can't find a cheap used one.

Just about any amp that won't overdrive the speaker (I think they're usually 100W) would work.

The cheaper one is, the larger the amp box and the more basic the control head will each be, expect to have mechanical switches. The all-in-one amps with controls can be pretty inexpensive, but they're harder to find a suitable place to mount.

There's another forum that specializes in warning equipment discussion and classifieds. I'm not sure how appropriate it is to discuss this sort of thing here, since there are potential legal issues with (re-)upfitting vehicles with warning equipment which may require a permit or other specific conditions to have installed & operational in a vehicle. PM me if you can't find it via a Google search, I can point you in the right direction.
