I had a No-slip Lock Rite installed on my X, and now the damn thing chirps. It turns out an open carrier is not made to take the stress applied by the center pin when both wheels are engaged. The carrier gets warped, and can eventualy break. Despite the chirping, the locker has worked quite well, and I wonder why I waste so much $$$ on 4X4's. Has anyone experienced this problem with their X's? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by "rear axle chirp"?

His tires are chirping when he turns as the traction device locks and unlocks.

If I'm not mistaken anyway.

that is normal..... that is one of the consequences/advantages of a locker on the street...

the locker will chirp going around bends cause its what to do what it was made to do LOCK... who ever told you that the locker will warp and bend the carrier was throwing you a line of bull...... you should be fine...

The only negative consequence besides the annoying chirping will be decreased rear tire tread life.

as you make the turn, if you can, let off the throttle. this will un-lock it. no more chirp.

Rear axle chirps

The rear axle chirps all the time. It's the same you hear when you've got warped brake rotors. I can hear the clicking and occasional tinging when turning cornings, but this chirps happens all the time. It becomes even more pronounced when driving up a hill. I'll keep driving my X. Offroad its untouchable (My opinion of course.). Thanx for all the replies!

it shouldnt make that sound... how reputable is the place you got it installed at? go back to them and tell them it is jacked up

I'd say you have a problem back there. Take it back and have the shop fix what they did wrong. I have a Powertrax No-slip and the only noise it makes is the tires chriping when I corner, if I don't let off the throttle.

As for the carrier not being strong enough, that's a load of BS. Whomever told you that (I'm guessing the shop that installed it told you that and are covering their butts) is wrong. I personally have never seen an 8.8 carrier break. If the carrier were that weak, you would see a bunch of busted 8.8's from people towing trailers.

i have to agree. i didnt realize it was chirping/making noise all the time. something is wrong. and if the shop that did the install was the same place that told you the carrier B.S., then they screwed up. either way, it needs to be fixed now before the whole diff. grenades. IMHO.

ThsnX. You see ads for the shop in question in just about every off-road mag in print (DTS). Yes, they are covering their tails, and I have gone to another shop to initiate the repairs.
