I have been debating rebuilding the axle on my '91 Sport 2wd. I do not know what the current gearing is, I have not got around to figuring it out yet. I would like to change out the gears, maybe a posi, I am not sure yet. How hard is it to complety change out the seals and ring and pinion gears, along with gear change? Where can I go to buy a rebuild kit? Right now the axle is ok, I changed out the pinion seal, and and it the pumpkin was full of shavings and the pinion gear was loose as hell, so right now its a weak link.

You need to use the search button.

Your answers require ALOT of typing, and if you search you can answer most of this yourself, then if you still have questions ask away :)

This stuff is covered on this forum in detail!

Short version:
Check the axle tag for gear ratio
its hard, the rule of thumb is about setting up gears: "if you have to ask, pay someone to do it"

You have options from grabbing a new rear at the junk yard from a late model truck with disc brakes, to rebuilding your entire 8.8 with all new bearings, gears, seals, and your choice of traction devices.

But before you decide, search :)
