gawahhh...I went to change out the diff fluid (trying the siphon method) but the plug wont budge at ALL..first its shackle bolts, then the hangers, everything seems to be stuck..

Is the recessed square meant to take a 3/8" ratchet or is it an odd size..the 3/8" doesnt seem big enough but a 1/2" is way too big..? Help?

The square in the diff plug is meant to take a 3/8" ratchet. Mine was really tight too. I had to use a breaker bar and a cheater pipe to get it off. Keep trying, it'll come out. Get a breaker bar, you may strip out the teeth in a ratchet head, and hit the bar with a hammer. Maybe the impacts will free it up. Maybe try soaking it in a penetrating oil, though that has never worked for me. Hope this helps.

Yea, it's a 3/8's. Try digging any mud or goo out first with a screwdriver, then use the hammer to make sure the rachet/breaker is seated all the way to the bottom of the plug and see if it comes out. If it doesn't you'll have to drill it and easyout it out. If you have to resort to this make sure to flush the diff real good to get any chips out.

For what it's worth, I don't think you can siphon the gear lube out of the 8.8, the tone ring for the abs is right behind the filler plug, I don't beleive there will be enough room for a hose to fit in there.

Good luck.

eh

eh screw it if the siphon method wont work I'll just go ahead and get the T&A/SVO dif cover and be done with it..thanks for the tip Kampy..saved me some aggravation

Re: eh

Go to a shop and have it done. In the long run you will be happier.

An impact tool might do the trick if you still want to diy.
