hi guys i have a quik question about my 95 4.0 im going to change the rear diffy fluid and i checked and found the fill plug was able to remove it and now im wondering is there a drain plug or o i need to take the differential cover off? when i removed the fill plug the magnet on the end had a thick layer of metalic mud like stuff stuck to it about as thick as a piece of cardboard so i was wondering if thats normal wear and tear in a vehicle of that age
second question how much fluid do i need i bought a 32 oz. bottle of 90 weight thinking i would just top it off now i want to change the fluid all together. thanks guys/ also what do i use to re-seal it if i do have to take the cover off?

Yes the best way is to take the cover off and drain it, it could also be siphoned out, but since you have some metal on the fill plug it would be best to take the cover off and poke around in there. It will take a little over 2.5 quarts to fill it up, just keep going until it starts to come back out of the fill hole. To seal it up most people just use black or grey rtv to make a gasket.

Use Black RTV. Heavier duty. Also, make sure that you clean off all the old gasket left behind and insure that both mating surfaces are perfectly clean. If not, I recommend that you find someone who enjoys trying to seal your rear end.
