Rear end fluid?!?

How do you check the rear end fluid in a 2000 sport 2wd. I cant find a bolt anywhere to check/fill the fluid.

The fill hole is to the front of the housing.
 






Yes, front left above the middle. Fill it to about 1/8" below that hole.
 






what type of gear lube is the ideal to use. I have never checked/or filled the fluid.
