92 EB Explorer 4x4 4dr
Folks, I have a swap question. I have a 92 E/B Explorer with 346,000 miles. The rear has gotten pretty noisy and is now leaking from the pinion seal and both axle seals are showing some fluid. Rather than take it apart and rebuild it I have a line on a '98 disc brake rear that is brand new in the Ford crate. Mine is a 3.73 posi and so is the later one I have located. My question is, does anyone know if the '98 rear will bolt into the '92 truck? I know I will either have to fabricate what I need for the disc brakes or swap all my drum stuff over to the new rear but my main question is are both rears interchangeable. Will the rear bolt in and the driveshaft hook up OK? Thanks for any help.

... and keep the discs.

Thanks for the info folks. So I can do a direct bolt in swap. I will take my question a step further. Is anyone aware what it will take to hook up the discs? I am guessing the parts should be available from a salvage yard to make it a bolt in also. Wonder if the master cylinder will need to be swapped since it will be 4wdb now or just a change of the distribution block for the brakes (assuming it has one?). Thanks again.
